Negative taken of Dr. W.H. Townsend on January 8, 1973. Dr. William H. Townsend was elected to his first term in the Arkansas House of Representatives in 1973. William H. Townsend born in West Point, Clay County, Mississippi, August 30, 1914 to Mr. & Mrs. John Henry Townsend who moved to Earle, Crittenden County, Arkansas in 1918. He attended the Tuskegee Institute (B.S. Agriculture, 1941), Howard University and Northern Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago (Doctor of Optometry degree, 1950). An optometrist, he began practice in Little Rock, Pulaski County, Arkansas in 1950. Making many great contributions, Townsend was appointed members of many organizations including the Urban League of Greater Little Rock Board; Board of the Health Center of Pulaski County, Executive Board of the National Christian and Jews Board; Central Arkansas Health Board; Education and Legislative Audit Committee; Board member of the Directors of First Commercial Bank of Little Rock and Board member of Arkansas Enterprises for the Blind.
